Technology, religion and culture is not new to the South West of England. Here you will find Stonehenge and Concorde, Avebury Circle and Westland Helicopters, Silbury Hill and Brunel's engineering masterpieces of the Great Western Railway, the SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Glastonbury was once the capital of England when the Kings of Wessex ruled all, nowadays it's the home of the Pop Festival and allegedly the remains of King Arthur buried in the grounds of the Abbey.
Habitation goes back to Palaeolithic times as evidenced in the caves at Cheddar now famous for its particular brand of cheese. Later peoples built the Hill Forts like Maiden Castle near Dorchester whilst the Romans preferred the comforts offered by the hot springs of Aquae Sulis, the modern day city of Bath.
