Glastonbury was once the capital of England when the Kings of Wessex
ruled all, nowadays it's the home of the Pop Festival and allegedly the
remains of King Arthur buried in the grounds of the Abbey.
Habitation goes back to
Palaeolithic times as evidenced in
the caves at Cheddar
now famous for its particular brand of cheese. Later peoples built the Hill
Forts like Maiden Castle near
Dorchester whilst the Romans preferred the comforts offered by the hot
springs of Aquae Sulis, the modern day city of
Bath.
