Maps of Northern IrelandActive map of Northern Ireland
Guidance for the use of the different maps types on this site.We have in general two different types of map displayed on this site;
The Dynamic Maps These maps appear, like the one above, automatically on all our database driven pages. The map and the data on the map is provided as part of the Google Map API upon which we overlay data in the form of icons from our own information, for example on the hotel accommodation pages we overlay icons showing the position and type of each hotel. You the user may temporarily adjust the settings of these maps to suit your purpose, that includes zooming in and out and panning north, south east and west. You may also change the style of the map from the normal road map, to a satellite image (where available), to a composite of both the road map and the satellite image. Finally the maps will also display a terrain or physical view so you can see if the land is flat or mountainous.
The Static Maps There are also a large number of static maps displayed on this site, some of which you can access directly using the menu on the left. These maps are mainly derived from old documents and therefore the data on them will not change and has no need to be dynamic like the maps above. Some of them are artworks in their own right and are thus included within our National Image Library some of which are which are of such a large scale they are really floor plans. We have an interesting collection of the floor plan maps of Castles and Cathedrals
