British Towns and Villages Network

What is a good Site?

Our view of a good site is one that offers a broad range of information about a particular area of the United Kingdom or a service that is being offered. Obviously a site covering a small village will be vastly different to one covering a large town or even a city, needless to say it will be easier for a site covering a small area to comply with our requirements than one covering a large area. As a minimum the site must cover it’s chosen topic, service or products well.

If the site is a broad community site we would expect to find information on the following

  • history and geography of the area
  • places to visit and things to do
  • local events
  • local groups, clubs and associations
  • links to other sites within the community

The other type of community site is one that covers a specific aspect of community life, this could be an "Amateur Dramatic Society of XXXXX Town" or "The River XXXX Angling Club", these sites too must cover their chosen topic well and not simply be a one page site. For example the Angling Club site should carry information about river fishing that makes it an interesting site for he non-angler to visit.

All community sites must carry links to other sites within their community otherwise they cannot possibly qualify as a community site.

If the site is offering a product or a service

  • Extensive details about the product or service
  • Clear contact information INCLUDING a UK land address (Compulsory)
  • The service or product needs to be either manufactured or marketed in the link location
