Officially titled the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England but known to all as English Heritage, its a lot easier to remember, this Public Body is responsible for the protection, conservation and promotion of the built heritage of England. Although well known for the ancient monuments, castles and historic houses in their care, including Stonehenge, they are also responsible for protecting many thousands of listed building and other sites throught the country.
The visitor may find details of smaller attractions at County Level or below that are not listed here
