The Garden of Sleep at Sidestrand

A large watercolour image dated around 1942 of The Garden of Sleep at Sidestrand, UK.

This old watercolour relates to the Garden of Sleep poem written by Clement Scott (1841-1904), it was he that first referred to this area as Poppyland inspired by his visit to the area in 1883.  The tower on the skyline is Craske's Tower, which was a well known local landmark, it fell into the sea in 1917, the churchyard attached also disappearing into the sea.
