Mademoiselle de la Ramee (1839-1908) was born in Bury St Edmunds, her father was French but her mother, Susan Sutton, was English.  Maria spent much of her childhood in England, later in life she was a resident of The Langham Hotel.  For the last 20 years of her life she lived in Florence, she is buried in Bagni di Lucca's English cemetery.
