Strictly speaking the village of Brentor is North Brentor, but it is known locally simply as Brentor. South Brentor is a nearby hamlet. The village lies within the parish of Brentor, on the western edge of Dartmoor in Devon, between Okehampton to the north and Tavistock to the south. The nearest villages on either side are Mary Tavy on the A386, and Lydford. Our best known local landmark is Brent Tor, a hill crowned by the ancient church of St Michael de Rupe, said to be the highest church on a hill in England.
The website at www.brentorvillage.org is for the whole of the parish. It''s a community effort made using the Joomla Content Management System and is maintained by ten or eleven editors, all of whom live locally. It includes the monthly community newsletter as well as lots of links and photographs. The map shows the position of the stone war memorial in the centre of the village.
