Jean (1848-1906) was the only daughter of Admiral Sir Charles Hotham (1806-1855), Governor of Victoria, Australia. Her mother was the Hon. Jane Sarah Hood (1817-1907). Jean married Colonel Charles William Forbes of Callendar Estate (1871-1948) D.L., J.P., later of Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire. Charles was the second son of William Forbes of Callendar (1833-1914) and Edith Marian Hervey (1845-1936). Jean and Charles were married at St Cuthbert's Church, Norham-on-Tweed in 1897.
