An image of a portrait attributed to A. Blakeley (?) of Michael Faraday (1791-1867). Faraday was born at Newington in south London, he had only a basic education, later continuing to self educate, in 1812 he attended lectures by Humphry Davy at the the Royal Institution of Great Britain, in 1813 he held the position of chemical assistand at the Royal Institution, in 1814 accompanying Davy on an 18 month tour of Europe. Continuing to work at the Royal Institute he discovered electromagnatism working with metal, magnets, and rotation. He was an advisor to Trinity House, and a Professor at the Royal Academy in Woolwich, he died at his Grace and Favour lodgings in Hampton Court Palace
