A large photograph image dated around 1897 of Mrs C L R Messel of Nymans Garden at Handcross, UK.

Nee Maud Frances Sambourne (1875-1960) born at 18 Upper Philmore Gardens, Kensington, the daughter of Edward Linley Sambourne (1844-1910) an illustrator for Punch and Marion Herapath (1851-1914).  She married Lt.-Col. Leonard Charles Rudolph Messel (1872-1953) at St Mary Abbots Church in Kensington in April 1898.  Her husband inherited Nymans from his father in 1915, they were the last family to live in the house, a fire in 1947 devastated the building and they were forced to move out, on her husbands death Nymans was bequeathed to the National Trust
