Trees are being hacked down on the canal I would consider this very sad as the whole character of the canal has been lost. They are a windbreak and at this time of the year when the birds going to roost and breed.I am a great believer in conservation of the countryside.I gather that the Canal Society are making a footpath/cycleway but that is no reason to fell trees.I written a letter to the Chichester Observer 11/02/2010 inviting other readers opinions and what action can be taken to prevent anymore trees being hacked down.In the spring and summer the canal is a beautiful with it's different shades of green and reflections.
