Market Bosworth Station reopens
Standing neglected ,abandoned, ignored ,overgrown for the past 15 years ,Market Bosworth will reopen as a Station on the Battlefield Line on the 19th March for the Line’s Steam Gala.Visitors will be able to park their cars adjacent to the railway line in the Goods Shed Yard which has been leased to the railway by Mr D. Lewis. It is then a short walk across the track over the newly installed foot crossing to the Up Platform( the original Station building is still used as a garage ). This is the first time that visitors will have had total access to Bosworth station since the Railway Society was formed and have never been able to park cars any where near the Station. Many hours of work have been put in by members of the Society to prepare and make the site safe for the public to use . It means that residents of Market Bosworth have their Station back and can walk or drive down the hill out of town and catch a train for the first time since the station closed to passengers in 1931. It also makes the Station handy for the people who use Bosworth Water Park being just a short walk away.The goods yard that we are using was used by the Army during World War 2 as a Petrol Distribution depot and closed as a goods yard in 1968.
There is still a large amount of work to do to but it is intended to use the Goods yard site for Rallies and exhibitions ,visitors will also be able to use the extensive site for caravan weekends although at the moment we are not accepting visitors to stay the weekend we hope to be able to offer this facility for the Whitsun weekend .
