Devil’s Bridge at Pontarfynach consists of three bridges, one over another; and the original bridge was built not by the Devil but by the monks of Strata Florida Abbey. Below the Hafod Arms Hotel are the deep gorge and falls of the River Mynach. In all, this is one of the supreme beauty spots of Great Britain. Also visit the remains of Hafod and its ground and gardens nearby – seeing especially the waterfall from behind, it is reached by an artificial cave.
Pontarfynach is the eastern terminus of the Vale of Rheidol Railway which has its base at Aberystwyth
Pontarfynach and the Devil’s Bridge is within the old county of Cardiganshire that is now referred to as Ceredigion.
