Overlooking the lovely Vale of Ceiriog is Chirk, here crossed by the lofty aqueduct (690 feet long and 65 feet high) of the Ellesmere Canal (painted by Cotman) and a railway viaduct 100 feet high and 846 feet long. Chirk Castle is 14th century, with Elizabethan modifications. Note ironwork of entrance gates.
Chirk was once part of the county of Denbighshire is now within the county borough of Wrexham
